Abstract
Pressure sores occurring in surgical patients are often not attributed to time spent in the operating theatre. Initial underlying damage can occur whilst undergoing a surgical procedure but may not become apparent until hours or days later. In carrying out a literature review, the author concluded that such a fundamental aspect of nursing care in the operating theatre is a low priority and that nurses could do more in terms of pressure relief for their patients.
