Herpes simplex virus causing superficial wound infection in total hip arthroplasty.

Pradeep Alexander1, David Wismer.

Abstract

We present a case of herpes simplex virus causing a superficial wound infection. The patient suffered a recurrent prodromal burning sensation followed by small grouped vesicles on a erythematous base. We suggest that viral cultures be done in these cases to aid in this unusual diagnosis.
