Research involving persons with mental disorders that may affect decisionmaking capacity.

Abstract

In December 1998, the US National Bioethics Advisory Commission (NBAC) published the above-named report. The committee made twenty-one recommendations, some of which provide a set of requirements that NBAC believes should be satisfied in all research involving persons with mental disorders, while some are optional protections, that may be considered appropriate, depending on the particular circumstances of the research. The full recommendations are reprinted below.
