Abstract
The Rpg1 gene, which has provided North American cultivars of barley with resistance to the stem rust fungus Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici for more than 60 years, has been cloned. A single copy of the gene can confer resistance to a susceptible barley variety. Although unexplained, the progeny are consistently more resistant than the variety from which the gene was obtained. The gene might represent a new class of plant resistance genes.Entities:
