Prevalence of anemia in Schedule Caste preschool children of Punjab.

Abstract

A study on the prevalence of anaemia was conducted among the Scheduled Caste preschool children of Punjab. Blood sample was collected from 3,500 children ranging in age from 1+ to 5+ years and haemoglobin was estimated by cyanmethaemoglobin method. Anemia was diagnosed when haemoglobin was less than 11 g/dl. The study revealed the overall prevalence of anemia as 81.66%. The frequency of anemia was maximum in age group 2+ and minimum in age group 5+.
