Self-organized formation of a hierarchical self-similar structure with calcium carbonate.

Hiroaki Imai1, Tomohiro Terada, Satoshi Yamabi.

Abstract

Self-organized growth of calcite crystals in a supersaturated solution with a gradual increase in the influence of silicate anions resulted in the formation of a hierarchical self-similar morphology consisting of three-pointed stars with sizes ranging from 100 nm to 100 micrometer.
