Performance-based palliative care in the nursing home: closing the gap between "knowing" and "practicing".

Corinne Kay Kyriacou1, Allison Nidetz.

Abstract

This study evaluated the impact of an experiential educational model--combining traditional didactic techniques with applied performance-based methods--on changing nursing home staff attitudes and knowledge about palliative care, and effectuating positive changes in practice outcomes such that the delivery of palliative care is moved "upstream" in the disease/treatment trajectory. Two nursing homes participated.
