Abstract
In secretory cells, exocytosis and compensatory endocytosis are tightly coupled membrane trafficking processes that control the surface area and composition of the plasma membrane. While exocytic and endocytic processes have been studied independently in great detail, at present there is much interest in understanding the mode of their coupling. This review discusses emerging insights into the coupling of these processes, both in the chemical synapses of neurons and in non-neuronal cells.Mesh:
