Abstract
The metabolic syndrome may be viewed as a state of insulin-counterregulatory overdrive: counterregulatory hormones and fatty acids chronically duel with insulin, causing a cascade of biochemical interactions resulting in insulin resistance, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
