Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) on alloxan-induced isolated islet cells damage in rats.
METHODS: Isolated islet cells from SD rat were cultured in vitro. SOD activity and MDA content in rat islet cells incubated with alloxan or alloxan combined LBP were measured.
RESULTS: Alloxan induced a significant decrease in SOD activity and a increase in MDA production, which were inhibited by LBP.
CONCLUSION: LBP had protective effects on alloxan-induced isolated rat islet ceus damage.
