Abstract
In patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, neck exploration by an experienced parathyroid surgeon is curative in excess of 95% of cases. Considerable efforts have been devoted to improving parathyroid imaging. New radionucleotide agents and scanning procedures have markedly improved the success rate of localization studies with subsequent development of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
