The familial support system of Thai elderly: an overview.

J Knodel, N Chayovan, S Siriboon.

Abstract

"The present study is intended as an overview of the familial system of support for the elderly as it currently exists in Thailand. The focus is on living arrangements and material support of the elderly Thais in relation to their children. Data come from a nationally representative survey of the elderly in private households conducted in 1986....[The authors find that] the most prominent feature of the living arrangements of the Thai elderly and the most crucial aspect of the familial system of support and assistance as it currently exists in Thailand is co-residence with an adult child." excerpt
