Geographical mobility and mobility expectancy: trends in the United States of America, 1956-1987.

H L Sharma.

Abstract

"The objective of the present paper is to summarise trends in geographic mobility and expectancy in the U.S.A. between 1956-1987, using Current Population Survey (CPS) data and to determine the responsible factors that can affect mobility rates utilizing logistic regression based on 1979 and 1980 public use sample tapes data from the National Health Interview Survey.... Mobility rates reveal a general downward trend in the U.S.A.... Overall mobility rates remained rather constant at slightly less than 20 per cent from the mid fifties to the mid sixties. This has fallen steadily since 1970 to a relatively low current rate of about 17 per cent. This rate rose slightly from 1985 to 1987." (SUMMARY IN FRE AND ITA) excerpt
