Abstract
"In this article I have developed a political-economic framework for understanding international migration in postwar Europe and the United States." The author begins by reviewing four theories of international relations and gives a short critique of their main assumptions. He "finds that international migration reveals a contradiction between the main economic purpose of the postwar international order--to promote exchange--and the national perquisites of sovereignty and citizenship." excerptKeywords: Americas; Comparative Studies; Critique; Demographic Factors; Developed Countries; Developing Countries; Economic Factors; Europe; International Migration; Migration; North America; Northern America; Philosophical Overview; Political Factors; Population; Population Dynamics; Research Methodology; Studies; United States
