A thymic factor increasing the blood sugar level.

The thymus extract prepared by using isotonic NaC1 solution causes hyperglycaemy and the thymectomy, too, produces the same effect. Consequently, the active substance of the thymus is produced elsewhere in the organism and being stored within the thymus, gets into the extract by homogenizing its cells. Both the thymectomy and the thymic factor increase the effect of alloxan and this sensitizing effect can be prevented by pretreatment with prednisolone.
