Abstract
A 63-year-old man presented with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the larynx occurring 16 years after radiation treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx. Postirradiation sarcoma of the larynx is an unusual tumor. The location, the histopathologic and immunohistochemical appearance of the tumor, and the time elapsed since the initial treatment make it probable that this tumor is associated with prior radiation treatment. The possibility of postirradiation sarcomas after radiation therapy should not be a major factor influencing treatment decisions in the patients with head and neck cancer. Wide surgical resection of the tumor seems to be an efficient means in the management of this tumor. Copyright 2002, Elsevier Science (USA). All rights reserved.)Entities:
