Real time odor representations.

Rainer W Friedrich1.

Abstract

The relative importance of spatial and temporal patterning of odor-evoked activity in the olfactory bulb is controversial. Recently, voltage-sensitive dye imaging has been used to demonstrate that odor-evoked glomerular patterns evolve over time in an odor-specific manner. The results suggest that odor information is contained in a combination of spatial and temporal response components.
