Abstract
We studied the human leukocytes antigens in 18 Egyptian children with biliary atresia (BA) without extrahepatic congenital malformations. There was a significant increased frequency of both B8 and DR3 (83.3% and 94.4% in patients with BA compared with 6.5% and 14.9% in the general population, respectively). Ten patients had the B8/DR3 haplotype. Our results support the hypothesis that genetic factors may play a role in susceptibility to BA.Entities:
