Abstract

[reaction: see text] 4-Deoxypentenosides, which are readily derived from D-sugars, resemble glycals in structure and reactivity and can undergo stereoselective epoxidation and S(N)2 nucleophilic addition to produce L-sugars in pyranosidic form.
