Alternatives to restraints: what patients and caregivers should know.

Abstract

Current nursing practice mandates that patients be provided safe care in the least restrictive environment possible. This article discusses specific unsafe patient behaviors, their possible causes, and alternatives to the use of restraints in the home. The role of the home care and hospice professional is presented.
