Abstract
Methods to detect infectious agents in laboratory animals have traditionally been serological and culture based. Molecular methods to detect infectious agents in laboratory animals are being used more routinely. Confusion as to when and how to use molecular methods abounds. In this review, we present a guide to the weaknesses and strengths of using traditional and molecular methods for the detection of infectious agents in laboratory animals.Mesh:
