Abstract
The overall importance of local tumour control in the management of breast cancer, specifically the influence of local control on survival, remains one of the fundamental questions for oncologists. This review addresses the issues surrounding local tumour control, including the evolution of the concept of disease spread, the rationale for local control, the results of studies of radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery and after mastectomy, and an interpretation of the recent data on post-mastectomy radiotherapy.Entities:
