[The characteristics of bcl-2 and PCNA expression in the lens epithelium of human being].

J Weng1, H Zhang.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of bcl-2 (gene inhibiting apoptosis) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression and their relation to the proliferation of lens epithelium.
METHODS: The expression of bcl-2 and PCNA were detected by immunohistochemical streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) method.
RESULTS: The expression of bcl-2 and PCNA in the lens epithelium of fetus and children was higher than that of the elderly, especially in the region of the lens equator.
CONCLUSION: The over-expression of bcl-2 and PCNA in the lens epithelium of fetus and children suggests that bcl-2 and PCNA might be related to the development of cataract.
