Ultrastructure of cell migration throught the gastric epithelium and its relationship to bacteria.

H W Steer.

Abstract

The migration of polymorphonuclear leucocytes and lymphocytes through the gastric mucosa has been studied with the electron microscope. Bacteria have been found related to the gastric epithelium. Arguments in favour of these bacteria not being contaminants at the time that the biopsies were taken are presented. The relationship between polymorphonuclear leucocyte migration and the occurrence of bacteria is discussed.
