Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the safety and feasibility of hepatectomy for huge primary liver cancer (PLC).
METHODS: The effect of resection of huge PLC was examined retrospectively. Some problems about resection of huge PLC were discussed.
RESULTS: In 171 patients with huge PLC undergoing hepatectomy, 2 (1.2%) died in one month after operation. The 1-, 2-, 3-, 5- and 10-year survival rates of the patients were 66.1%, 42.1%, 32.7%, 12.2% and 2.3%, respectively. The effect of prolonging survival time was significant.
CONCLUSION: Hepatectomy for huge PLC is safe, feasible, and effective.
