[Total hip prosthesis, is it a criterion for the assessment of structural modulator efficiency?].

M Dougados1.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: It has been evaluated during a longitudinal prospective study (ECHODIAH study) conducted over a 3-year period estimated the pertinence of total hip arthroplasty as an assessment criterion for the evaluation of the efficacy of structuromodulators.
RESULTS: It is clear that patients who undergo total hip arthroplasty have more advanced hip disease. Factors predisposing to total hip arthroplasty have been demonstrated by multivariate analysis: advanced age, female gender, severe pain, Lequesne index, superolateral migration of the femoral head, important structural alterations. Other factors such as area of residence were not found to have any influence. Consequently, total hip arthroplasty appears to be a valid and reliable assessment criteria for degenerative hip disease.
