Abstract
The pharmaceutical industry is currently facing several challenges to identify and develop novel drug targets. Traditional drug discovery focussed on a small number of well-characterized gene products. Recently, this picture has changed with the completion of the draft sequence of the human genome, which has led to the identification of thousands of novel genes with unknown or poorly understood function. To cope with this overwhelming number of potential drug target candidates, new strategies for the elucidation of gene function, as well as their involvement in intracellular pathways, are required.Entities:
