Abstract
Only 20 years ago, the term "osseointegration" was virtually unknown within the United States. The use of endosseous implants to replace dentition, although not unheard of in 1980, fell outside the American dental mainstream in general practice. This article reviews some of the key developments that have ensued since then. Special attention is paid to the concept of osseointegration as it applies to dental general practitioners.Mesh:
