Abstract
Many biologists are active in politics in the United States. Their efforts combined with those of other advocates, such as patient groups and members of Congress, have made funding of biomedical research a priority for both of the main political parties. Life scientists, acting through scientific societies and the National Academies of Science, also have a strong influence on political debates about issues with a scientific basis.Entities:
