Arthrography of the knee.

J J Kaye, R H Freiberger.

Abstract

Arthrography of the knee is becoming an integral part of the evaluation of the patient with a suspected internal derangement of the knee. The examination is relatively simple, and can be performed on out-patients with conventional radiographic equipment or a modified fluoroscope. Knee arthrography has been proven safe in a large series of patients. The technique is reliable, particularly in the diagnosis of meniscus lesions. The knee arthrogram is helpful to the orthopedic surgeon to confirm suspected abnormalities, to reveal unsuspected or multiple lesions, to exclude some conditions which could be confusing clinically, or to plan a surgical approach to the knee.
