Abstract
A rare case of concurrent primary biliary cirrhosis and ulcerative colitis is described in a 61 year-old Japanese male. Primary biliary cirrhosis was diagnosed on the basis of characteristic histologic findings and a positive serum mitochondrial antibody test. Ulcerative colitis was diagnosed from typical findings on colonoscopy and the histologic features of a sigmoid colon biopsy specimen. This is the 12th report of a patient presenting with the combination of primary biliary cirrhosis and ulcerative colitis. The potential autoimmune relationships on the basis of these conditions are discussed.Entities:
