[Mexican physiology in the 19th century: an investigation].

A C Rodriguez de Romo1.

Abstract

In the 19th century, Mexican scientific research in physiology had two well defined periods and followed the same scientific ideas that dominated the rest of the world. In the first period that takes almost the whole century, physicians did experimental research at their own expenses. In the second period at the end of the century, President Pofirio Díaz's tenure (1880-1910), pushed research on Physiology. This research was very nationalistic. Mexican physiological research at the 19th century was influenced by Cellular Theory, Darwinism and Experimental Medicine.
