[Histological variants of thyroid medullary carcinoma].

N T Raĭkhlin1, E A Smirnova, I Zh Satylganov.

Abstract

A total of 114 medullary carcinomas of the thyroid were studied clinically and histologically. Females and subjects aged over 40 years predominated among the patients (2-fold more than others). Five- and ten-year survival was 74 and 46.2%, respectively. The histological variants were as follows: solid, follicular, papillary, small-cell, clear-cell, oncocytic, and mixed medullary-follicular and medullary-papillary. The survival of these patients did not depend on the histological variant or the degree of tumor cell atypia.
