Menopause and breast cancer: symptoms, late effects, and their management.

P A Ganz1.

Abstract

Menopause and breast cancer are common independent health events, and coincide in some women. This article will describe what is known about the impact of menopause on breast cancer survivors, focusing on short-term symptoms and other late effects. Common menopausal syndromes in breast cancer survivors will be examined, with suggestions for their management. Strategies for prevention of the late effects of menopause in breast cancer survivors will be considered. Semin Oncol 28:274-283. Copyright 2001 by W.B. Saunders Company.
