Abstract
We report an outbreak of infection due to genotypically identical extended-spectrum beta-lactamase--producing Escherichia coli among patients in a liver transplantation unit. Control of the outbreak was achieved by a combination of contact isolation, feedback on hand hygiene, and gut decontamination with an orally administered fluoroquinolone. These interventions led to abrupt curtailment of the outbreak.Entities:
