Preventive care of the diabetic foot.

Abstract

Lower extremity complications are a frequent occurrence in individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This article discusses the etiologic pathway and risk factors associated with diabetic foot complications. Intervention strategies including assessment, risk stratification, prevention, treatment, and patient education are discussed.
