Hormonal insights into the pathogenesis of cyclic idiopathic edema.

S Sabatini1.

Abstract

Cyclic idiopathic edema is a nonlife-threatening syndrome of excessive weight gain. Although the cause is not clear, a number of hormones are postulated to be involved. Altered vascular permeability and increased lymph formation may also be part of the disorder. This article reviews some relevant data as to the pathogenesis of this noninflammatory disorder, concluding with an approach to diagnosis and therapy. Copyright 2001 by W.B. Saunders Company
