Expectancy as basically a short-term process.

Expectancy in stuttering is investigated under conditions that approximate more closely than in previous work the circumstances and mode in which expectancy is purported to operate. The results indicate that the currently accepted explanation of the expectancy phenomenon is inadequate and misleading. An alternative explanation more consistent wwth existent data is offered.
