Abstract
The retrosigmoid approach for the microsurgical removal of an acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma) is described, and perioperative medical management of the patient is discussed. The techniques for monitoring facial and cochlear nerve function are presented. The supine-oblique position, skin incision, bone removal, dural opening, and initial exposure are outlined. Important points in the technique for removing acoustic neuromas and preserving hearing, when possible, are described and illustrated.Entities:
