Abstract
This article applies the concepts of knowledge management to diagnostic and procedural coding performed by health care providers. The process of diagnostic and procedural coding is both an art and a science. In particular, the information stored away in the minds of individuals performing the coding function is ripe for the basis of an effective knowledge Health Information Management (HIM) coding management system.
