Abstract
The treatment of 162 pathologically obese patients by means of laparoscopic adjustable silicone gastric banding (LASGB) is described: 112 patients were followed up for 15 months. All patients had a positive outcome, as documented by the progressive reduction in their body mass index (BMI) from an initial mean +/- SD of 42.6 +/- 8.5 to 32.2 +/- 9 after 15 months. Only 11 complications were encountered. The mean hospital stay was 2 days. These findings support the notion that LASGB is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of morbid obesity.Entities:
