External osteosynthesis of distal fractures of the phalanges by reposition-fixation of the fingernail.

C Belpomme.

Abstract

Fractures of the distal phalanges of the fingers rarely justify immediate amputation. Integral repair is necessary if severe sequellae are to be avoided. Management always requires surgery and we advocate external osteosynthesis by reposition-fixation of the fingernail. The principles and the technic for its use are outlined. For me, this method is the only guarantee for a quick, stable, economical and satisfactory cure of this common hand injury.
