Sudoriferous cyst of the orbit.

W J Rosen1, Y Li.

Abstract

PURPOSE: A case of sudoriferous cyst of the orbit in an adult patient is reported. This unusual cyst in the orbit has heretofore been reported only in congenital cases.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 45-year-old woman sought treatment for an asymptomatic mass of the left lower eyelid. Computed tomography of the orbits showed a cystic lesion in the inferior orbit with bony remodeling. Histopathologic examination showed the lesion to be a solitary cyst lined by two to three layers of cuboidal epithelial cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Some of the epithelial cells contained periodic acid-Schiff-positive, diastase-resistant granules. The pathologic diagnosis was a sudoriferous cyst.
CONCLUSION: Sudoriferous cysts, although uncommon, should be included in the differential diagnosis of orbital cystic tumors.
