Abstract
The condition of delayed or altered passive eruption exists in adults when the gingival unit remains positioned on the convex prominence of the enamel rather than at or in proximity to the cementoenamel junction. Treatment protocol is based on periodontal, esthetic, and prosthetic considerations. In addition, the gingival/osseous relationship becomes important for proper diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this article is to increase awareness of the pathognomonic signs and symptoms of delayed passive eruption so that appropriate treatment can be rendered.Entities:
