Abstract
The recruitment of leukocytes from the blood compartment constitutes a multistep process which involves primary and secondary inflammatory cytokines, as well as adhesion molecules expressed on leukocytes and endothelial cells. The properties of the interleukin (IL)-1 system and of chemokines, as well as their interplay, are analysed. These mediators offer new paradigms to understand diverse pathologies, and provide tools and targets for the development of novel therapeutic strategies.Entities:
