Each histologic type posesses its own distinctive natural history, controversy surrounds therapeutic programs, and prognosis is influenced by multiple factors, varying from a fatal outcome within a few months to a nearly normal life expectancy. Since fatalities do occur in patients with well differentiated cancers, a more aggressive approach to all thyroid nodules would improve current survival rates.
