Abstract
The feasibility of using shake flasks to culture animal cells was evaluated using various sizes of cylindrical shaped vessels as bioreactors. It was found that conditions can be optimized so that hybridoma, Chinese Hamster Ovary cells, and insect cells can be efficiently cultured in the shaking reactors to cell densities comparable to that obtained with stirred-jar bioreactors, and the system is scalable to larger volumes for the production of recombinant proteins or cell mass production in the laboratory.Entities:
