Enzyme inactivation by TiO2 photosensitization.

T Hancock-Chen1, J C Scaiano.

Abstract

The enzyme horseradish peroxidase is extensively inactivated by UVA exposure in the presence of TiO2, a common ingredient of sunscreens and cosmetics. The effect is attributed to the generation of reactive oxygen species, as indicated by the inactivation enhancement observed in the presence of air.
