Genetics of pigmentation in Biomphalaria straminea.

C S Richards.

Abstract

A monogenetic factor determining basic pigmentation in Biomphalaria straminea follows simple. Mendelian inheritance and has at least three alleles, as in B. glabrata. Wild type pigmentation with black body, mantle collar and eyes is dominant; albino with no black pigment is recessive; and "blackeye" pigmentation, deficient in black pigment in body and mantle collar, is recessive to wild type but dominant over albino.
