Figure 2Model for the functions of Fis1/Mdv2 and Mdv1/Fis2/Gag3 based on their subcellular localizations and mutant phenotypes. In step 1, Fis1/Mdv2 recruits Dnm1 to the surface of the mitochondrion. In step 2, Mdv1/Fis2/Gag3 is added to the complex. In step 3, the mitochondrial division apparatus, consisting of Dnm1, Mdv1/Fis2/Gag3, and possibly other components, help constrict the mitochondrial outer membrane.
